Default 225/45-17 on 5thG Prelude?

I would like to run 225/45-17 tires on my 2000 Prelude SH with 17x7.5" Kosei rims. Is this possible without rubbing?

Is this possible if lowered approximately .75 or 1.0 inches?

If not, then does 225/40-17 work any better while preserving rolling diameter?

Otherwise are 215's the widest tire I can use?

yeah i think 215 is the largest if your car is lowered or else they will rub when u turn sharply

no you can run 225's without rubbing. someone is running 235/40/17 without rubbing on PO.com. you must shave the plastic tab in the rear wheel well, have the right offset wheel, and fairly high spring rates.

problem with 225/45/17 is that the Overall Diameter of the tire is about 1" more than OE, therefore you're lengthening your gearing >>> reducing acceleration.

So I would want to use 225/40-17 tires instead of the 45's, correct?

If 225's tend to rub, especially when lowered 1" then they do not sound like a good choice.

225 is a decent size, you just need the right wheel to put them on.

no one makes a 225/40/17, unfortunately, so this discussion is academic. for 17" wheels, 215/40/17 is the closest size to stock.

I run 225/40-18 on my prelude SH 98 and it doesn't rub !!! But I can't sit no one in the back seat cause the back tire will rub. Anyway, I always said it's a two seater.

Well that says it all for me: I'm staying with 215/45-17's.

I want no potential rubbing issues.

Just fyi, in case it helps the discussion, the wheels I'll be mounting them on are Kosei K-1 Racing models in 17x7.5" with 45mm offset.

Thanks!

you don't want 215/45/17's because that tire will shit all over your gearing. i've had 215/45/17's before and it was sluggish. you want 215/40/17's.

215/40-17 will be smaller than OEM rolling stock. I know acceleration will be better but the profile will be too low.

I was under the impression that 215/45-17 was equivalent in overall diameter to 205/50-16.
