Default 4th gen brakes...

Do you have to remove the calipers to replace the brake pads? ('95 Si)

LOL NO you don't. For the front you flip up the caliper body and the rear you separate the caliper body from the bracket.

being that the pads reside "inside" or "under" the caliper...
yes
you do have to remove the caliper itself to change the pads.

you will also need a key (autobarn/autozone/pepboys) to turn the rear caliper pistons in.
the calipers "could" be swung out of the way like buglew said...but i would recommend removing the caliper itself and securing it to the strut with some wire. the 3rd gen ludes have calipers that swing. not the 4th gen.

WRONG I have changed pads myself many times on more than one 4th gen including my own and the caliper bodies swing up on the front calipers. Not to mention even if I had never done it you can plainly see that they do in any Helms for the 4th gen.

yea if you leave one of the caliper slide bolts installed than yes you "could" swing it out of the way.

on the 3rd gen lude's they only have one bolt in the front. the other bolt is really a pin that allows it to swing.

i have 2 sets of 4g si calipers in my garage...if u want ill take some pics so you can see that in fact there are TWO bolts. not one bolt and a slide/hinge like the 3g.

this is a trivial argument on your part, considering there are several ways to change the brake pads without taking all of the hardware off or removing large components.

THE FACT IS:
the 4g prelude calipers DO NOT have swing bolts or hinges
but yes if your a jackass you can make an argument that "hey if i leave one caliper bolt in then i can swing the caliper off the bracket"
wow what a shocker

Well who was the asshole who laughed at the initial question of do you "HAVE TO REMOVE THE CALIPERS". That would be you jackass, now obviously if you can leave a bolt on and swing the caliper body attatched to the bracket (which the manual tells you to do) then you do not HAVE to remove the caliper do you?

lol

i wasnt laughing at the original question in a bad way.
if i wanted to be mean i could have used an assortment of mean smileys or sarcastic terms.

as far as the argument here.
i prefer to disassemble the braking system and clean all associated hardware etc.
that involves removing the caliper.

and that pic is from the helms?
im at work now so ill have to check my 94 prelude helms when i get home
