stripped oil pan threads!
What is it with these cheesy, weak threads. A Honda dealer did the damage! Can these really be re-tapped. I already got a quick-lube place to cough up the 360 bucks to replace the oil pan when they stripped the threads last time around. I don't think I have any recourse this time.
Or should I just buy an oil extractor at Griot's?

The dealer partially stripped my oil pan threads as well, and they're not willing to fix it for me. Just barely leaking oil now, but I gotta figure something out before next oil change or before leak gets worse. I'd really rather not have to pull my oil pan off - any ideas for an easy fix?
I've seen some rubber plugs that expand as you tighten a nut, they're supposed to provide a tight seal. Anyone used these?

uh
yea so the dealer admits doing it but magically wont pay for it?
i dont see how that is possible, in the wide world of lawyers and legal battles.
how many did u strip and did u strip the bolts out or strip the studs, there are a few studs for alignment with nuts on them.
i dont see why a good amount of RTV and a new oil pan seal cant fix this problem.
btw u'd be surprised what idiots can do with steel bolts and aluminum blocks. its not pretty

Sorry for the confusion, I was talking about the threads in the oil pan for the drain plug. The dealer changed the oil last, but claim they never over tighten drain plugs so it couldn't have been their fault (yeah right!)
Any ideas?

u know i have heard this before, my ex-gf's stepdad was a mitsu dealer, and he had some spiel about how easy it is to crossthread the oil drain plug :eh:
never happened to me.
in fact i dont think its possible without using an air tool.
the threads are big and course, ud have to really be an idiot or trying really hard crossthread that bolt...
can't happen to my lude now, i have the FRAM quick drain installed. takes me 7 minutes to change my oil, NO TOOLS, only a jack

oh btw, it may be as simple as the crush washer on the oil drain plug is either missing or damaged. the pan will leak if the washer is missing, and if the washer is used more than 2 or 3 times it will also leak slightly.

i had my oil pan stripped in my lude and my dad was able to rethread it. i think the size of the new plug was a little bit bigger but it was perfect after that and i didn't let anyone touch the oil pan but me.
