idling problem....really need your help, guys!!!
hi,
i have a 91 prelude 2.0 si. i recently replaced the intake manifold gasket on my car and it PARTIALLY cured an idling problem. my car WAS idling from 1000 to 2000 rpms no matter what the circumstance. i replaced the intake manifold gasket and now the idling problem still exists, though not so bad. it will idle 1000 to 2000 rpms while the car is warming up and eventually goes away when i drive it for a while. since it's winter, it occurs all the time while the car warms up. when it was warmer outside it would idle completely normal (700 rpms).
is it something with the air intake? or could it be a sensor that is making it read too lean/rich for the air/fuel mixture?
thanks

My h22a does the same exact thing. Its my Idle Air Control Valve that needs to be replaced. I dont know about 3rd gens but I think your motor has one too. If it does, find it, and while your car is idling like that, unplug it. If it stops idling like that, then replace it.

hello again,
thanks for your suggestion. i plan on doing it asap, but i've already replaced the idle air control valve and the fast valve on it (close to the throttle body) and it did not cure it. the idle air control valve that we replaced came from a junk yard car, exact same model and year, but it could be that that one was bad at the same time. any other suggestions?
thank you

do you got the check engine light on? If so read that code and it should point you out in the right direction.
If not then maybe a vacuum leak, run a propane torch (not lit) around the hoses and gaskets to help find out where the leak is.

idling problem, possible vacuum hose?
Hey everyone!
I have a prelude 2.0 si from 1988, still kicking ass.. but now I've had to replace the original alternator (yes, believe it or not) and immediately right after, my car has a revving problem when idle.
For example, if you sit idle at a stoplight, it's revving between 1500-2000 rpm, constantly up and down.
Now, when you do run the car you don't have such issues with the revving rpms. I need to know what it could be. I don't think it has anything to do with the new alternator, but any suggestion would be appreciated.
I've read the boards, and people seem to say it's a vaccuum hose, but if that's so, where, and how? Little more insight would be good on this thing.
Any help from anyone would be fab, and you guys can e-mail or message me.
Thanks!
V
