Default 5th Gen Wheel Size

Does anyone know what the widest wheel I can get on a 17" rim for the 5th gen Prelude? I'm thinking about getting the 2004 TL wheel which is 17x8 and I don't know if it's to wide.

17x8 is probably the absolute widest you could run. i'd go with 225/40/17's.

you still might rub, which sucks but, oh well. some people can get away with 17x8, and some can't so it's really a crapshoot.

I would go with 17x7 but that's just not enough rubber, I skip out going into 3rd. I wasthinking about getting the rear '00-'03 S2000 rear wheels but it's a huge pain to try and get them off ebay since I would have to get two sets and then sell of the front wheels. I think I'll go to my Acura dealer and hope that they will let me try the wheels on.

Its all depends on the offset of the wheels. Im 225/35/18's with a +48offset and i have zero rubbing and im dropped on H&R race springs 2". Its all a matter of offset and tire size. Here is a pic of...

First of all what is the "off set" and should I go with the narrowest tire that will fit on teh wheel? I haev the eibach pro-kit installed, but I am going to switch to the Tein coil over kit.

offset is the distance between the centerline of the wheel and the mounting surface of the wheel, measured in millimeters.

stock offset is 55 on a 6.5" wheel. i'm thinking on an 8" wheel you might want to be somewhere between 45 and 48.

so far as the tire as concerned, on an 8" wheel you could go anywhere between 205 (it'd be a stretch) and probably 255, but i'm thinking 225 is probably the ideal width. 225/40/17 has a near identical overall diameter to stock as well. rub? once again not sure, but if you cut out the plastic tabs in the rear wheel wells, (where the rear bumper connects to the rear quarter panel) and have the right offset, you might not.

well the tires that come with the wheels are 235/45/17. Also anyone know if I can take the center cap off that wheel? I don't want to look like a deush.

I ended up ordering brand new S2000 wheels with tires from ebay for $750 that includes shipping and they should be here by saturday. They better be anyways because I'm leaving for Mexico on sunday. I pretty much have no doubt that these will fit.

you might need a spacer for the rears. the fronts will fit no problem.

you'll want hubcentric rings though.
