that oil being burned is mostly from when you turn your car off, right? I can't remember exactly what it was my brother was telling me about turbos and why/how they burn a little oil, I just remembered that they do, and that it was something I just had to realize was normal.

when you shut down the engine, the inner passages of the turbo are still nice and hot, even if you let it cool a little some of the oil inside the turbo will vaporize leaving a small bit of gum or char that will get pushed out next time you start and go into the filter. thats just a LITTLE bit tho, not really measurable except over long periods of time. I wouldnt expect that to lower your oil enough to see on a dipstick thru just a month.

I'm not THAT stupid, you really think all the heat goes away in 5 mins? and yes, EGT means Exhaust Gas Temperature. Its really really importand to things like jet engines and... turbos.

well
yes you can watch the EGT drop significantly in under a minute
although the turbo is still hot enough to vaporize oil, but that wasnt my point

Default I'm glad to see this thread

I posted questions about my 5th gen burning oil on another website and got back nothing but oh it must mean you're running in VTEC mode driving on the Autobahn. The truth is that I don't run in VTEC that much unless I actually get to drive over 100mph or I take to long to switch gears. My has burned oil since the first oil change and it doesn't matter how heavy the oil is. I've used the recommended 5w20 and currently it has 0w20 (Mobil 1 synch of course), I still burned a qt of oil before my last oil change. So in short, I'm glad to know it's is not just my car.

it has to do with the FRM cylinder walls
"burns" is such a harsh word
i prefer "consumes"

it is also not obvious by smell or sight even under WOT that my car consumes oil.
so it is normal because of the way the rings are set against the FRM (silica inpregnated aluminum) cylinder walls

Right, and exactly nothing to with running "VTEC mode", as you would say. VTEC is nothing but more frequent and longer lift of the exhaust and intake valves, associated with higher RPMs, I'm bothered by the way people equate VTEC with engine damage, or fluid consumption (other than gas of course).
