I don't think the death penalty is a big issue for most liberals. I think it's just a very vocal portion of the left that makes noise about it.

Thanks for the source, it is a very good article.

The problem is I think it refutes what you are saying.

I said "saves taxes" you say no. The article says "For the "single case" perspective, then, our best estimate is that an execution saves $166 thousand in incarceration costs." Page 78 subsection C

Whether or not the person actually is executed is not germain to this argument, so don't go there. Everyone here, except you, is saying "Kill them ASAP". This equals a tax break for all of us law-abiding folks.

The jury gave them an express ticket to hell so the judicial/penal systems needs to be loading the train UP!

Why don't you read the whole paper? Money is saved in one area (incarceration costs) and spent elsewhere (court costs). OVERALL, more money is spent than saved. This is primarily because 2/3rds of death penalty cases are successfully appealed.

I did, and overall, you are both right and wrong. The origional thread relates to executing someone twice. I am not arguing that the legal system is expensive. But the fact remains that certain criminals are sentenced to die and it will be carried out. As this is now an INCARCERATION issue, kill em sooner, rather than later.

They're executed when the legal standards associated with a capital case are met. No way to solve that without compromising the integrity of our legal system.

I'm not a fan of the death penality, but I can see situations where it may be appropriate. I feel that in some states it's overused though.

Anyways, I think we should move away from the lethal injection and should move to a nitrogen gas chamber if we are to continue using it.
