No they didn't. What you really mean here is that the percentage of whites that died is disproportionate to the number of whites in the affected population.

Why did you use quotation marks? Are you actually quoting someone here, or is this just what you think goes on inside the minds of black people?

Your definition of an "alarming fact" is bizarre. Even more bizarre is that you and I agree on hate crimes legislation and on affirmative action, although surely for different reasons.

President Lyndon Johnson, in a speech he gave in 1965, said "You do not take a person who, for years, has been hobbled by chains and liberate him, bring him up to the starting line in a race and then say, 'you are free to compete with all the others', and still justly believe that you have been completely fair."

I think he was right. There was a time in America when affirmative action policies were right and just, but that time has passed. The struggle for equality continues, but at this point the government and society have fulfilled their obligation to make possibly racial and social equality. At this point, only individuals can bring themselves to equality by earning it.

What I mean by that is that education admissions quotas are unjust. College and the world beyond are and should be a meritocracy. Rewards should be given to those who earn them. There was a time that, no matter how hard he worked or how smart he was, a black man could not go to medical school. That time has passed, and its time to close the books on affirmative action.

Hate crimes legislation bothers me because we already punish criminals for the crimes they commit. If a gay man is beaten because he is gay, is it any worse than being beaten by people who don't know he is gay? I'm not comfortable with the idea that people should be punished for what they think in addition to how they act.

By the way, where did you find those "offiicial" statistics on hate crimes?

And of course you know that the Hurricane Katrina response time by federal disaster agencies was directly correlated to the number of blacks according to many, including New Orleans City Councilman Oliver Thomas who said people are too afraid of black people to go in and save them. Kanye West also made an impact with his idiotic statement.

Are we forgetting Biloxi, MS which was also hit by Katrina? Whites died by the hundreds in Biloxi so am I missing something here?

No one in America, white or black, is born into slavery or into chains anymore! We are born as equal persons. It is unfair to say black people are somehow born with lesser rights than whites. It is insulting to give Affirmative Action to blacks; it is like giving a child a headstart. The whole idea that blacks need a program to help them get to college should be taken as demeaning and insulting to blacks! Are we preparing blacks in the workforce by giving them special privileges in education?

I am very comfortable with the Hate Crime laws; I believe the logic behind Hate Crime laws are very reasonable. If someone kills or harms someone because of how they look, they have a very dangerous mindset -- a more dangerous mindset than say someone who just happened to get in a fight with someone. It is important to root these criminals who kill and harm other races because, admit it or not, these criminals are more dangerous and more likely to do it again. That is my explanation on why charging someone with a hate crime is justifiable.

However, I am shocked on how they are enforced and used on the judicial level. For example: in October 1999, a white man named Troy Knapp was attacked by a mob of black men wielding pipes and trash cans, while riding his bike with a companion in Charleston, SC. Knapp was beaten so severely that part of his skull and brain had to be removed, leaving him barely functional.
Seventeen suspects were arrested and charged with seconddegree lynching. However, local prosecutor David Schwacke commented, "We haven't been able to establish hate as a motive."

According to a Fox News report, Schwacke, "acknowledged that if it had been 17 white suspects and two black victims, hate would more likely be considered a motive."


I am terrified of the judicial system's intentions to not charge the black men with such a heinous crime in addition to not using the hate crime laws inacted just because of cases like this. Now blacks are being given special privileges in the courtroom? Unbelievable... and do not believe this is an isolated case.

I went to school in the ghetto. in 2005 i grossed approx $66,000 at age 27. your argument is slightly soggy but in fact holds no water.

everyone has the same opportunity in this country. it is not so much about race, color, creed, or any other demographic as it is about applying one's self on an individual level.

 

im not the one to doubt!!!! but how could you attend a school in the ghetto and make that statement..... I attended 4 different schools growing up 2 in the ghetto and two in the burbs , as well as attended a 4 year unversity on a "on a football scholarship" my personal experince at the ghetto schools include "watching a theacher get stab" having two teachers tell me "ill never amount to anything drop out" having to walk to through two different gang areas just to get home..... many time having to fight or run for my life..... grade avg went from 2.2 to 3.8 once i attened the burb schools..... i live in so cal our ghettos are pretty rough here!!!!!!! my ex wife is a high school teacher in the ghetto and i get a lot of info from her also.... but this is just my opinion!!!!!! but hey i respect your opinion... if you get a chance click that tuskegee experiment link i posted...

 

you're missing my point. if you apply yourself, regardless of race, color, creed, location, etc... you will succeed. if you say to yourself "hey, i don't want to grow up to be a gangbanger" and you stick to that mentality, you won't grow up to be a gangbanger. it's really very simple.

I am familiar with the atrocity that was the Tuskegee experiment but i do not see how you came to the correlation between this and the blatant bias our judicial system has in the application of hate crime laws.

 

Okay. First off you do not elaborate on this. What point is this supposed to prove? Are you just googling and then copying and pasting links in order to form some kind of argument? Kid, you have you try a little harder than this. That was something that happened almost 40-70 years ago. PHS did not harm these black men. PHS did not give the black men medication that harmed them. They gave them aspirin and iron supplements (both NON-harmful.) Yes, PHS is guilty of not treating the black men. The US Governement also injected plutonium and uranium into 12+ white people in the 1940s. And the Army is known for experimenting on white soldiers during the Vietnam War. Government experiments on unsuspecting people is wrong... but it's not an isolated incident like you believe.

It's wrong to blame the government that the reason that the majority of blacks in the ghetto choose to stab, rape, kill, and deal drugs. It is their decision. THEIR DECISION. Nothing more. Now if you come up with another link showing me that the government is paying black people to kill, rape, and deal drugs in the ghetto, you let me know.

Exactly. Why is it that the past is such a present issue with certain people? We are dealing with present issues NOW. The past has been written and slavery was horrible. Blacks did not have complete and utter equality and freedom in America until the 70's. Yes. It was horrible. But why do these blind left-wing zealots want to bring up the past over and over? That is why liberals tend to never solve problems in our government. In stead of addressing and solving problems head on, they tip toe around it and point toward other issues. Let's face the issues and problems our judicial system is facing now and let's address and solve these problems NOW instead of pointing toward horrible past incidents. And WHY is there bias in education? Have we learned anything from the Civil Rights movement that there must be equality for ALL? So give me that scholarship and don't look at my skin color!
