you can get a v6 to get mileage of an inline 4 on a freeway...either through high gearing to keep the engine revs really low or cylinder deactivation that gm is working on...however you will not get instantaneous response until the tranny downshifts or the engine reactivates the cylinders

Mate that with a five speed transmission and your fuel economy on the freeway is almost at four cylinder levels, anyway. If Honda does introduce a new engine block, that should lead the way for good things to come with the CL/TL, RL, and NSX.

Even with high gearing, I don't think you can get the same mileage as an engine that's 1/2 your size. About cylinder deactivation, wouldn't that essentially make it a 4 cylinder engine when the 2 cylinder is deactivated? The overdrive gear for are usually around .5 or .6 for most cars i.e. RSX-S and GS-R, both gets around 30-33 mpg on the freeway. Inorder to get that kind of gas mileage on a 3.8L V6, you have to either have a really low overdrive gear, i.e. around .3 or .2, or have a really low final drive. Either way, you'll decrease it's responsiveness and performance.

The news is and I quote, " news" is that the Odyssey will be undergoing major changes in 2004. Such changes may include more power, new exteriors and also more entertaining interiors. The vehicle's new powerplant may be the 3.8l V6 we've all been waiting for. It has never been Honda's custom to keep a vehicle design for more than 5 years. As a matter of fact that last time they did that was on the flagship Accord and look what that turned out to be, absolutely beautiful. Expect to see some type of concept drawings or photos by Sept/2004. Watch this website closely or check out www.hondanews.com I will keep all of you informed. For now I bid you farewell and a reminder this is only "NEWS".

Anywhoo, those first Lumina APV's and everything were very ugly. Then you compare it to the aztek...progress!
