That may be a tad bit of an overstatement

This is hardly a "sceen"...... it's a new direction for GM. This GTO is forcasting the new direction, as they have plans to follow in about 2 years with a car they may name the Chevrolet Chevelle SS. That would take the hole in Chevy's lineup absent by the Camaro. Same basic concept as the GTO. Another thing, GM is really thinking about using more Holden produced vehicles for everyday GM nameplates here in the states. If they hold true to this new direction, I'm going back to them. Fact is, I am pretty much sold on the GTO right now, and those who know me know how hard I've been on GM in the past. First Cadillac, now Pontiac, next Chevy..... once they shore up Buick, the transformation will be complete.

They are nice. If I would get one if I thought I could stand driving a car that is slower and handles worse than mine. And I can't help but think it looks like a grand prix.

No.

The Z06 has a completely different motor--the LS6. It has different heads, higher CR, different cam, etc.

The base Corvette motor is the LS1 and it has, surprise surprise, 350 hp.

:slap:

LS1 = regular C5 Corvette.
LS6 = Z06 Corvette.

Oops, sorry, but he did say something was from the Z06..... must be just the transmission. I know he said there was something out of the Z06. Mabe he was stretching it a bit. Either way, it works.

The Z06 has the same gearbox as the base C5. All C5s have a rear-mounted transaxle which is most definitely not shared with the GTO which uses a traditional transmission up front and differential out back.

Hmmmmm..... I still would like to believe someone who actually works in the hierarchy of GM before any of you. No offense, so please don't start this into an arguing match. This guy did say something was from the Z06. Mabe he's wrong, mabe you're wrong..... but have you worked for GM for 23 years? Rest it here, please.

What he probably means is that it has a Tremec T56 gearbox which is pretty ubiquitous in GM small block applications.

The difference is like I said already, the C5 mounts it as a transaxle in the back of the car while the GTO mounts it as a transmission right behind the motor.
