Hold on, so turbos are "old school" but plain ole big displacement is not?

Hehe, I was about th say the same thing. But anywho, I could careless how they achieve the power. As long as there's a lot of it, and it doesn't affect the handling. I'd take a high revving V12 over a Turbo V6 anyday. Also, more likely than not, NA will be more reliable too.

Yes we know, that was established several posts ago.

BTW, the Crown shares a platform with the upcoming new GS.

Oops, those posts totally didn't appear for me. h: My bad. It's bizzare, though, several people (Asians themselves) say that Asians regard the Crown line, not Lexus, as the best of Toyota.

I think someone mentioned Yamaha before, but Yamaha is indeed working with Toyota on one of the new/upcoming V6 motors.

Don't misunderstand Lexus; Danny Clements has been begging Japan HQ for years for a performance line a la AMG, but they have held out on him. I guess it's kinda like Honda not being crazy about a production V8.

sorry for the large pictures. this is the crown royal. the crown athlete also looks very similar. the current LS430 is the toyota celsior in japan. not part of the crown "family," but i don't know if they share a common root

yamaha has "worked with" toyota ever since toyota's first entry into the sports car market with the original supra. either they can't do it themselves, or it's economically favorable to keep the relationship between the two companies going. personally i favor the former, but that's just my opinion.

where did danny clements come into this discussion, and how is it relevant to anything?

Looking at Toyota's profit and total cash, which is near 19 billion dolar, I think it's the later rather than the former. I mean, if engineers from one company can do it, then i'm pretty sure engineers from another can do the same thing. So it all comes down to profit. Toyota wouldn't be where they are today if they hired all stupid engineers.

Yamaha first consulted to Toyota way back on the 2000GT. They built the cylinder head and the wood inlays for the interior (they make a buncha pianos). The first three Supras have inline sixes derived from the 2000GT's M-series block (built in house), with GE-series heads by Yamaha. Yamaha still builds all of Toyota's GE-series heads, but at this point there aren't too many motors with GE-series heads. Yamaha also contracts out to Ford--they did the motors for the various Taurus SHO models and now the Volvo XC90 V8.
