Default 15 MPG? Poor milage??

I have a 2002 MDX which I purchased pre-owned with low milage about 6 months ago. I have been dissappointed with the gas milage. Getting between 15-16MPGs, about 80%/20% City/highway driving. My wife is the primary driver and she is NOT a lead foot by any means. I have read that the MDX gets pretty good milage for an SUV, but I am wondering if this is typical. I have checked tire pressures (35PSI) and am using 89-91 octane gas (dont really notice a difference). Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

EPA states 17/23 city/highway... given you do majority city the number should be closer to 17. Yes 15 is below 17 but that could have a lot to do with where you live, if there are a lot of hills and so forth with stop go continuous traffic then its reasonable.

god why so many ppl cry about fuel mileage? Buy a chevy then! when your getting 10 miles to the gallon you will gladly take 15. The EPA mileage is an estimate, it varys.

I have an '02 MDX as well. Mostly city driving (Chicago) - average around 16mpg or so. Have to figure in driving habits - I have a heavier foot than my wife, so that has an effect.

Default Mdx

I have a 2001 MDX in Chicago area and I get 19.9 mpg in city, dirving LSD, etc. The worst I have ever seen it was 17.7 in the winter with warm-ups and idling to keep warm. At 15, I would check things out.

I used to have a 92 Land Cruiser that got around 11~12MPG. Someone told me to try a K&N Air Filter. I did.... My Gas Mileage went up to around 17MPG. Went up more than 30%. The K&N filter is pretty expensive, however, you never have to replace it, just rinse it out, load it up with oil and replace it.

I bought 2003 MDX with 30K miles 3 mo ago for my wife. We are getting between 16 and 17 in town and 22-23 on highway trips. I live close to sea level. Not sure of your mileage but if you haven't done so you should check air cleaner. Depending upon mileage and service to date PCV and/or Plugs might need attention.

I am getting about 16mpg in city. I plan to replace the egr, new K&N filter and very important is PSI in the tires. I hear huge pluses about airing the tires up to 33-35psi and got really good range on MPG on the MDXs
