Default Post you average mpg for your RL

I am entirely frustrated with the bull**** Honda proclaims about the good gas mileage their cars get. In addition, they use this same line of defense against producing a V-8 engine as one of their arguments. If this is the case, then why does my 2000 RL consistently get poor gas mileage? Recently, I took a 100-mile trip, which was all highway and my average mpg was a meager 17.9 mpg. That is pathetic. I have friends who drive V-8's that get better gas mileage- in the mid 20's. In addition to that, the RL has a small gas tank - about 280 miles before another fill up. Maybe its just my experience, how is everyone else's gas mileage.

Mine sucks, I haven't figure it out exactly, but sometimes I think I'm driving a f***ing SUV or something. Good thing I love my car!

I keep track of my mileage religiously...and I consistently get about 20mpg. Sometimes it's a bit higher. The highest I've gotten was 22.5mpg.

I have only had my 99 for a couple months and it is averaging 20-21.5. I do ride it pretty hard though, averaging 75 -85 on the highway, with lots of stop and go stuff mixed in. I have been a bit surprised by the RPM's at those speeds being higher than I expected. The drivetrain would really benefit from a 5 speed auto. So far it has been a treat.

I have a 97 RL, and I'm sitting at about 15mpg, and my feet aren't that heavy. The only way I could get 20mpg is if I didn't take it over 2000 rpm... Bet you my grandma could do it.

I started this thread and I stated that I took a 100 mile trip and got only 17.9 mpg which was mostly highway. Well before I left from that trip I filled up. On the way home (104 highway miles) I averaged about 85 mph. Then drove around the city for another 104 miles. When I filled up with 14.342 gallons and 208 miles it translates into 14.5 mpg!!! All this and Acura fans still believe Honda when they say we don't build V8s because they are not fuel efficient. Well, the V6 is a bigger pig on gas than some v8s out there!

I've had my 99 RL for about three weeks. Not the best time to pick up a guzzler with Premium Gasoline between $1.69 - $1.79. This has been tough to swallow - especially since I just gave up my 91 Integra.

I bumped into a guy who has a 96 RL. He liked his car, but he hates the MPG.

Acura really needs to do better with the MPG

Default Get a tune up

I am not sure what my mpg is but I know for a fact it is better then 17.5. Even with my engine mods. I think you need to either ease off the pedal or get a full tune up.

A tune-up is not needed. I just had one and the car has only 27k miles. The combination of a 4,000 lb car traveling at 80 mph with a 6 cyl screaming at 3200 rpms translates into bad gas milege.

I have a '99 with 97K miles on it and I get 21 or 22 mpg every time I fill it up. I travel 85 miles a day on the highway plus some stop and go with the highway portion usually 80 mph. My mpg could be better but something is wrong with your car to only get 14.
