Default Help on Performance Cats?

Does anyone have a performance cat on there GSR? How do they feel? Any hp gains? Hows the gas mileage? Oh yah and does the car puff black smoke when shifting at redline? Just want to get some info on them. Thanks,
Matt

A highflow cat is an important part of a performance exhaust system. The exhaust works together as a package, so looking at the gains of an individual part is pretty much worthless.

If you slap on a highflow cat on a stock catback/manifold, you probably won't see much difference. When combined with properly matted catback and header it will make a difference.

It won't puff black smoke, gas mileage shold be the same.

My performance cat is a Calico. A little gassier than some other high flow cats, but short hair = less cleanup.

Anyway, yes, hiflow cats are nice. Carsound is good, I have one. Quality products. Make sure you get a cat whose diameter matches your header's collector diameter.

I have a random technology High flow on my GSR motor, it is mated to a 4-1 DC sports header, with custom 2 1/4" catback exhaust and I have noticed allot better response at higher rpms, but at lower rpms I do feel that I lost some power.

I've heard some really nasty things about random tech. What do you think of it so far?

The only prob I have had was the upper heat got a little loose and started rattling, just went back to the muffler shop and they tig weld it back down(in more than one spot hehehehehe to make sure) Other than that it has been great, but we'll see how good it is come inspection time in October. My friend has one on his B20/VTEC and he was able to pass emmissions so we'll see what happens.

when i bought my gsr it already had a hi-flo cat on it. But there was no new header or exhaust, just a muffler. And the cat fit perfectly. Well now i went and bought the DC 4-2-1 header and the Tanabe RM exhaust and for some reason the cat won't hook up right to the header. I went to an exhaust shop and had them hook it up but there was no gasket to put in there and the guy at the exhaust place couldn't even hook the two together to fit properly. So now i have no gasket and the fittings don't fit correctly so i have an exhaust leak that i have to keep putting exhaust sealant on. I want to get it fixed right but i'm not sure what i should do. Does the cat not hook up right because its fitted for the stock header and i have to get a new one or what?? I don't know..someone gimme an answer here...thanx

No it should work the GSR head has two bolts that mate up to the Cat that has a two bolt flange on one side and a three bolt flange on the other. On mine I connected my Cat right upto the header and then had a custom pipe built from the catback.
