Default '86 1.6 dohc help

I found a good deal on a '86 integra with the 1.6 dohc engine. It has 96k miles on it. How much horsepower and torque does this engine put out? How is this engine comapred to newer integra engines? any help would be appreciated.

More like 118 horsepower at 6500 RPM and 103 ft-lbs at 5500 RPM.

The D16A1 is a very good engine to work with. It is very similar to the B18A1 introduced in the '90, however it is still a bastard child of the D series. It is mechanically identical to a ZC engine, however it has many internal differences which lead to a lower overall power rating. ZC parts can be swapped in to bring it up to ZC power levels. It can be built just like any other engine, it just takes a little more time to find the parts.

Oh, and it can be turbocharged using D series compatible parts with minor porting alterations.

Hey, genious, guess what? That trash is the product of the marketing and product development departments of an American company! Gee, American companies making shitty products, how original, right? No. Ford, GM, and Chrysler have been doing it for years! :fawk:

While I must acknowledge that even mentioning the troll feeds it...

You're talking to the ex-owner of a 73 Chevy Custom S-10 with a 93 Z28 engine, and I have a 1950 Tudor with a 92 Mustang 5.0 coming in inheritance, so let's acknowledge we're on the same page here. Not only that, I agree most ricers are complete dumbasses that do some of the most ridiculous, pointless stuff I've ever seen done to a car....

Though, my current car is a 94 Integra GS-R... why? Because it handles well, is fun to drive, looks good, quite quick, and gets over 35 miles per gallon. Not only that, with all the money I've put into it, I haven't spent over 9.5K including buying it, modding it, maintenance, and oil... That's not a bad deal, huh? It's really a great car too...

And while it wont hold a candle to my friend's 62 Chevy Nova, it still does a respectable 14.9, which is very nice for it's class (4-banger NA).

Thus, my little import does everything I want it to do... why then does this worry you so much that you have to spend time on labor day attacking other people? Don't you have family or friends you can spend time with?

Wow... you do learn something new every day!0 Hrm... know anything about the Carbuerated ZCs that they had for early G3 integras in japan? I'm curious as to why the hell they did that...

Was it just marketing to provide a super cheap G3 teggy with 105 hp?

It was the base models, the Japanese were using them to provide a cheap commuter type car. They keep the higher power engines, but they also make a lot of low power ones we never get. For example, take the G2 Integra:

US market:
RS, LS, GS: B18A
GS-R: B17A

JD market:
XSi, RSi : B16A
ZXi, RZi, TXi: SOHC ZC (basically a normal D series engine!)

In this case, the US not only got two different engines, ours where (generally) more powerful for the same trim levels!
