It changes gears just fine without the clutch, like when it's off. I haven't tried what you just said, while driving. I'll try it today. And yes, upshifting is just as problematic as downshifting. Thanks for your input.

Oh, and when i said i have problems getting it into reverse, i mean, it grinds just a tad.

are your guyses clutches really loose? like do you have to fully press the clutch in, in order to shift? Maybe you just needa tighten the clutch??? just a thought

i hope u dont downshift all the time...like when ur comin to a stoplight or a stop sign, it can seriously ruin ur synchros. Ur gears are only made to go up to a certain rpm before they give up and let you downshift...ever try to put ur car into reverse without comin to almost a complete stop? thatz because the drive wheels hafta be stopped before u can shift it into reverse...same thing when ur goin 70mph and u try to get it into 2nd...u can do it, lose ur tranny, but it gives a fight before you do it!

Bottom line is: Downshifting is baaad:nono: unless necessary(unless ur racing of course)

so you are saying that when i drop it into 3rd at 55 mph and then to second at 40 mph, this is bad for my car? I down shift all the time. I did this for 3 years in my 92 Prelude Si and I never had one clutch go bad on me except for the one i had to change very shortly after i bought the car.

How is downshifting bad? So every time I decide I want to pass someone on the freeway, I can't go to 4th gear because its "bad"? Hah. What you're saying is that someone with an automatic car can just slam the gas while on the freeway and let their tranny downshift 2 gears...but people that drive manual have to stay in 5th gear only and lack any type of power because its "bad" to downshift?

What do you suppose us manual drivers do if we're climbing a hill? Leave it in 5th gear and start losing speed until we're going so slow that it pisses off everyone behind us? No, I don't think so.

Downshifting is fine.
