this seems expensive
My clutch and alternator are going out. I can't replace the clutch myself and the alternator will be a pain in the ass to do since my apartment complex *****es everytime I jack up my car. I went to an import car clinic next to my work to get prices on these two things. They wanted $765 to do the clutch and $440 to do the alternator. It wouldn't even be a new alternator. It would be a Bosch remanufactored(sp) one. This seems expensive to me. They do really good work and have a good warrenty but still. does this seem expensive to anybody else?
Well that may or may not be reasonable depending on their labor rates. I know some of the experienced people on here can change a clutch in a couple of hours, but shops have other cars to deal with including yours, so changing a clutch is usually an all-day job (or even 2-day depending on how long it takes them to get the clutch).
Did you get separate prices to change alternator and clutch? Alternator will be very very simple to change if they have the tranny pulled off, because the driver side axle and center shaft has to come out anyway to get the alternator out. You might want to check on a price to get it all done at once. Do you not have friends' or parents' houses you can go to work on your car? I always work on my car when I go home to my parents' house. I have changed my alternator once already for a used one, but I will probably get a rebuilt one eventually. I found one online w/ a 3-year warranty for about $130.

I believe I got seperate prices. He didn't say anything about doing it all at once. My mom lives an hour away from me. I've changed an alternator in my ex-gf escort but I'm sure it's a little more difficult in my car. I'll check back with them on a combined price. Thanks.
I'm probably going to provide my own clutch. The exedy racing clutch from www.clutchcityonline.com is only $270 shipped. I think that's cheaper than what the shop was going to get theirs for. I'll try to check on everything tomorrow.
