Default Coilover Installation

i got GC coilovers and i was wondering how much all you people who've put new springs one their cars paid to get them put on. are there relativly inexpensive tools that i can buy to do it myself? i'm just trying to get a picture of how much it should cost so i don't get ripped. thanks.

oh, by the way... HAMBURGER1971 SUCKS!!! i bought these ground control springs and tokico blues from him... he shipped it the wrong way so it took a month and a half, then i realize that the shocks are blown... he told me they had 3000 miles on them. YEAH RIGHT!! now he won't respond to any emails, phone calls, or pm's... it's been at least 2 weeks since i've been emailing and pm'ing him, so there's no excuse. he just must be an @$$hole. jeff, if you read this, don't be an @$$hole... resolve this.

All you need is some sockets, a rachet, a spring compressor, torque wrench, and some know how. The spring compressor can be rented with a small deposit from most automotive part stores. As for the torque wrench I don't know if these can be rented since I have one of my own. You can buy a torque wrench from sears for around 20-30 dollars. Overall this would be a hell of a lot cheaper then paying someone to do it. To pay some one I would say about 100-150.
Sorry to hear about him ripping you off like that. It just proves how carefull you have to be when buying online.

is the spring compressor like a small machine? i haven't seen one before, so i don't know what they look like. also, what autoshop can you rent them from? i'm in hawaii, so i don't know if we got all the convenient places to rent them. but we got some places, like Napa and stuff. thanks for all the help so far.

yes, NAPA should sell/rent Spring Compressors. Spring Compressors are small, its basically 2 bolts, 2 clamp like pieces, that you tighten until you stock springs compress down. if you don't use a spring compressor, the spring will go flying when you try to remove it.

cool. thanks for the info. do you think it would be a good investment to buy a spring compressor, or are they really expensive? cuz i want to put my coilovers on, but i don't have the shocks yet, so i would have to take them off again to put new shocks on. oh well, i'll figure something out. thanks again.

your putting on just coilover springs right now right?
if so, you won't need a spring compressor again, you'll only need it to remove the STOCK springs. b/c coilover springs don't compress.
there's 2 different kinds of spring compressors also, the one I used costed $50.00 to buy. You should just rent it, since you'll probably NEVER need it again, EXCEPT to install coilovers on another car maybe.

BE VERY CAREFUL USING A BREAKER BAR....

We did that trying to get my bolt off my driverside LCA and I ended up with a broken bolt that wouldn't come out for $hit. I would suggest spraying all your nuts and bolts down with a lubricant before attempting this. The bolt alone ended up costing me $14 because none of the Honda/Acura dealers had them in stock and I had to get one delivered. Yet they had plenty of LCA's.
