Spinning tires up to 3-4000 rpm is bad for getting out of snow drifts...

Anyway, think of it like this..... You just had an all-day long dyno session....

Dude, first off a GSR is not a 4x4 so you should have not been out with it. NY was declared a state of emergency yesterday and you shoudln't have been out driving around unless it was an emergency. 2ndly, if you had some snows on it, it would have handles like a champ. I mean it's not gonna g through a couple of feet of snow, but it will handle a decent amount. Mine did when I moved it out of my drievway to clear out that area.

you can also drop your tire pressure a bit as well, that's an old trick that helps a little.

First off, spining tires under no-load conditions is very, very bad for your tires (they can easily explode) and your driveline. Note - a dyno session is not the same thing as there is a load (the rollers).

Secondly, having lived in Toronto my entire life until recently, you MUST get snow tires - failing that, some good All-Seasons. Do a search, there have been many thread on tire selection.

Allowing your wheels to spin for extended periods of time with clearance between the tire and anything to hold on to is a :nono:

Not good for your alignment or a tranny (well worse if it would have been an automatic).

The way I always get out of snow is to rock the car, longer you let your wheels just spin the more heat and what your stuck on will turn to ice rather than moveable snow. Also like Shingo said, start out in 2nd gear, with real low RPM's.

I actually got pretty good at doing 3rd gear starts for getting the wheels going nice and slow, I was able to handle light snow with summer tires.

Snow oriented all-season or dedicated snow tires will still definitely make the car much more liveable for winter driving.
