Default wally world to the rescue

Hey check it out wal-mart has a 4 ton jack with two stands and ramps for $29.99

I just bought it a few weeks ago to work on mine and they work great. I usuallyjack the middle up as far as i can go and slip in the jackstands. then go to each side and get the extra 3-5" i need behind each wheel.

yeah I have a 2 ton jack from checker and it only raises to like 13" which is about 1/2" too low for the lowest setting on the stands. So I have to drive up onto 2x4s before jacking it up. I'm too cheap to buy a bigger jack.

Tell me if this is an incorrect jacking point, but on my '95 ls in the middle under the front bumper there's a little raised spot that looks like it's made for jacking. The jack actually touches the black plastic on the underside of the front bumper, but seems to connect with some part of the frame on the other side of the plastic, it's kind of under the radiator if i remeber correctly. Isn't that about the best spot for lifting the whole front end?

where is the best spot to put a jack to lift up an entire side?

Anyone have a pic of it? Can someone scan the helms manual where it is covered?

teh point is generally about 2-5 inches behind the front wheel and infront of the back wheel. make sure you use ramps!!! center the jack on the seam underneath, if you look at your factory jack you will notive a space ehere this seam will usually sit, the other jacks may or maynot bend this, but it is below eye view so no worry.
goos luck

I have used the tranny as the jacking point the past two times I've changed my oil... haven't noticed any adverse side effects. Can anyone tell me if this is bad?

Considering that you're lifting a lot of weight... I wouldn't do that.

For my 97, I jack from the base of the A-pillar & jackstand at the frame nearby the lower wishbone mounting point, one side at a time.

I also had to buy a trolley style floor jack; the old-school bottle jack I used to use wouldn't fit.
