95 gsr downshifted.........eek!
hey i need some help figureing out what might be wrong with my car... see i was racing and i accedentally downshifted in my 95 gsr , and my rpms went past 9k.... and now 1st and 2nd gears are hard as **** to shift in. i was wondering if this is a clutch problem or something else. any info would help. thanks
No, I don't believe its a clutch problem. Mostly likely you will need to rebuild your engine, if not replace a few parts. I'm thinking that something might have been thrown out of place when you downshifted incorrectly and it might have relodged itself near your transmission (which is why its causing difficulty shifting). But, in any case, this is probably one of the worste things you could possibly to do break a perfectly good car.
How does it run? You can over rev a motor and not destroy it. It is just 1st and 2nd that are difficult, shifting means tranny, so I drain the tranny fluid, check it for pieces. Kaiz, you're a bit harsh there, I am sure the dude knows doing something like this is not a good idea.
dude ive made this mistake more than 1 time on my civic and didnt break sheit... doing a 3-2 shift at 7500 rpm's.... it could be a number of things that went wrong, your best bet is to go to a trustworthy mechanic.

Not true at all. We have rev limiters so we don't rev past a certain RPM in each gear. They do NOTHING to protect from you shifting into the wrong gear. Your motor really will rev that high and possibly hurt itself.
If you shift into too low of a gear while the car is at speed, even turning off the motor will not prevent it from over revving. The wheels spinning through the low gear is what revs the motor. Cutting the fuel or ignition isn't going to stop the wheels from spinning. The only thing you can do to save the motor once you've misshifted is by stepping on the clutch or putting the stick in neutral.
