Not true at all. We have rev limiters so we don't rev past a certain RPM in each gear. They do NOTHING to protect from you shifting into the wrong gear. Your motor really will rev that high and possibly hurt itself.
True, but the engine management electronics should cut or pulse fuel supply if the engine is revolving past a certain value...on the GS-R's its around 8200RPM. You'll notice the engine 'come and go' as fuel is cut intermittently in an attempt to prevent the engine from overheating and/or breaking internal components.
