Default Brake Lines need replacing...

Well last night my brake lines completely got fubar, thankfully i was in a parking garage...

took it to a shop and they said that all my brake lines were rotted :nervous: glad this didn't happen on the highway.

anyway.. the mechanic also told me that the gas lines are also in bad shape.

then he went with the "well if you are going to replace the brake lines might as well change the gas lines too as they might get damaged while fixing the brake lines" ... is this true? im no car expert but this seemed a little fishy to me.

any advice? he said about 80% of the cost is labor. any advice?

what cosmo said.

but seriously you already got the labor in, if gas line is rotted replace it. cause rust from gas line is healthy for your engine.

thing is its at a shop that will say anything to get you to fix more things.. and they charge the labour for the gas line even if the car is up and labour is charged for the brake line..

so if its going to take them 3 hours to change brake line, and 3 hours to change the gas line, they will charge me 6 hours even tho it took them 3 hours :-/

just gonna change brake line there so i can drive it to my mechanic and change my gas lines with him.

ok so im having braking problems now... i think

the brakes will feel stiff and never go to the ground.. i thought something was wrong with my calipers etc. so i took it to a mechanic and he said everything looked good, some rust causing some stiffness but he cleaned all that out no problems.... he also bled the brake lines... anyway this was 3 weeks ago.

now its doing that again, but intermittently.. sometimes the brakes will feel fine, sometimes they are too stiff, and sometimes too "loose" ... some times i have to pump the brakes to get a solid feel again.. sometimes all i have to do is tap the brakes a little and the car will stop ..

whast wrong with my brakes am i being paranoid?
