Default Best way to start an Integra build

Hello Gentlemen and ladies?,
I have a question for you all. Given a moderate budget, and wanting a 3rd gen integra, what model type would you start with LS, or GSR?
Is it easy/ worth it to put in a GSR head into a LS (which is lighter overall)? What would your second set of mods be? (1st set is intake, exhaust, suspension)
What model years are the best for engine strength, vehicle weight, and general reliability?

Here are some stats about me. I own (don't laugh) a saturn sl2 with intake and suspension (exhaust is paid for but awaiting delivery. The goal is to strip the interior and add nitrous, and use as a street/race car. I'm all about light weight! I'm a chiropractic college student and I am more than willing to give opinions, but no advise (legality). Also I love the look and feel of the 3rd gen Integra, and I am sick and tired of not having any aftermarket support.

p.s. Saturnspeed is a good saturn board filled with very knowledgeable people.

Are you going to be drag racing this?

I think the GSR would be the ideal platform to build on (just because you have a big head start to begin with); if you're going the LS route try to find a RS (lighter, no ABS)

94-95 model are obd-1 which is reprogrammable, ls wheighs the same as gsr, and my back hurts

Default no road race/autocross

my goal for the car is to have a road race worthy car but a street car too. It will not be a race only application. probably the Saturn will fill that role.
However the integra will only be a two seater with the rear seats put somewhere else!
BTW what does ITR mean? I suspect it means Integra type R.
I know JDM, and USDM.. are there any other abbreviations I should know about?

how much money do you have for the integra?

Right now I have no expendable cash = College Student, but in three to four years I will have enough to be reasonable to spend on a car. I want to know so that I can focus on certain car models and years and what to look for and what not to look for. Right now used Type R's are going for over 20k Used so that isn't an option. But maybe 7k in a few years isn't unreasonable..
Do you get my meaning?

The type R is really a collectors item.......It is a very nice car the way it comes from the factory, but but it doesnt respond as well to after market tuning, as do the LS and GSR. My opinion, get the LS or better yet, an RS, and then do a B18C heart transplant (tranny and all). An RS with a GSR motor transplant will be slightly quicker than an actual GSR. Also ....Alot of people get 17 inch wheels for their cars...they do this because it is a good compromise of speed AND looks, but the fact of the matter is, if you really want to be quick, stick with some lightweight 15s, and some sticky tires......With the above metioned combination, you will haul a** .

Thanks. I am aware of the 15' wheels and tire thing. All of us that want to go fast at Saturnspeed have to know how to eek out every little piece of performance that we can! But will a gsr engine and tranny really produce that much more in a rs compared to not doing the transplant and just getting a gsr?
Also should I stick with obd1 cars? I know the saturns that are obd2 are a real pain to do anything major to since we haven't broken the codes!

GSR engine is not worth the swap. As answered in a previous thread, the b18b is a perfectly fine engine for getting nice power gains via turbocharging.

You mentioned road racing; if that's the case power shouldn't be as big of an issue . A gsr won't necessarily be worth getting just to mod for power gains, but in stock form it has a potent engine that responds better to bolt-ons. If you're not planning an extensive engine build-up I would recommend the gsr.

It sounds like you'd really enjoy the type-R, but good luck finding one in 4 years
