Default Broken Rotor.... Bad Distributor Bearing?

The Integra died on me the other day. Had it towed to a garage because I dident have time to mess with it. Apperently it died because of a shattered rotor. The garage felt it was because the bearing in the distributor is bad. So i take it 2 hours away, drive it around all day and head home, no problems. Go to start it the next morning and it wont start again. I rip open the distributor and the rotor is in a buncha pieces!

Does this sound plausable... Rotor heats up due to a failed bearing, then cools rapidly in cold weather (in the 10's) which causes it to shatter..... Oh and the distributor is squeeling (again pointing to bad bearing). Sound believeable? Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds probable.

Your probably going to need the whole distributor housing though, I don't think many have replaced just the bearing successfully.

If the distributor bearing took a shit then the rotating harmonics are going to be way off. When that disturbance is transferred through to the rotor it is only a matter of time until it virtually crumbles from the pitch/vibration of the whole mishap.

Nice theroy but I doubt harmonic distorition will affect the rotor while it is sitting still. Im gonna go with extream heat + quick cool down.

I warmed the car before I went to replace the dist (cause it was like 10f when i started the job). I was able to rest my arm on the oil cover but burned my hand when i grabbed the distributor. When i pulled it off i couldnt turn the shaft by hand. I dont know how it dident seize up. Got hosed on the remanufactured one from Advance though. Stinkin rotor set screw threads were ground out.... wonder why THAT core went in. Heaven forbid some quality control when they rebuild those things. :madr:

What was the brand of the remanufactured one you first bought? Was it the same brand they replaced it(w/ bad threads) with?

Glad you got it worked out :goodjob:
