Default Thoughts on the cost of this distributor replacement?

Just had my 1996 LS checked out for a Code 8 CEL (TDC Sensor) that's been on for a while. Mechanic reports that it's indeed the sensor and that they'd like to replace the distributor housing... for $595. I would consider doing this myself... would I need to get a timing light to use after the installation?

Other things they mentioned:

Thermostat sticking occasionally.
Clutch hydraulic fluid leaking from the master cylinder (replace master and slave cylinders).
Outer CV boots cracking.

How do they know you're thermostat sticks occasionally??? Does your temp fluctuate?

If the ms is leaking then replace it.

They'd like to replace the distributor housing or do they they have to? Why do they need to replace the whole thing? Something doesn't sound right.

Don't know specifically if they inspected the thermostat... I had mentioned to them that after I replaced the radiator with a larger volume one, the temp gauge in cold weather never gets above 1/8 or so.

Why they say they'd replace the whole housing ("sub-assembly") I don't know. It's my understanding that the TDC sensor is a separate component - is this true? They took two hours of labor to inspect wiring diagrams to narrow this down.

This "larger" volume radiator you got, was it made specifically for your car and why didn't you just use an oem radiator? That's probably your problem, not the thermostat.

ACURA INTEGRA CRANK-TDC SENSOR ASSY.
Part# 37500-P72-A01

http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/...DC_SENSOR_ASSY.

And that's BRAND NEW from the acura dealer. So out of that $600, $500 is for labor. :eh: Like I said, something isn't right. Did you pay for the 2 hrs it took for them to "look" at wiring diagrams? I hope not.

It was one of the generic Integra ones from RadiatorBarn - the big brass tank.

How difficult is it to take out the dist housing and replace the TDC components?

Also, what's an estimate for replacing the master cylinder?

How much is a replacement distributor from Autozone? Lifetime warranty included?
It's not hard to replace one, just label your wires and replace them one at a time. Mark the current location of the old distributor and install the new one in the same place.
