Just had my 1996 LS checked out for a Code 8 CEL (TDC Sensor) that's been on for a while. Mechanic reports that it's indeed the sensor and that they'd like to replace the distributor housing... for $595. I would consider doing this myself... would I need to get a timing light to use after the installation?
Other things they mentioned:
Thermostat sticking occasionally.
Clutch hydraulic fluid leaking from the master cylinder (replace master and slave cylinders).
Outer CV boots cracking.
How do they know you're thermostat sticks occasionally??? Does your temp fluctuate?
If the ms is leaking then replace it.
They'd like to replace the distributor housing or do they they have to? Why do they need to replace the whole thing? Something doesn't sound right.
