I would overhaul. I have seen "low mileage" motors swapped into cars with their own set of problems.

Something is very sketchy about this shop, though. Be careful. If it is too good to be true...

This incident alone should tell you to run away from this shop... and never let them touch your motor.

I would overhaul your ailing engine.. but find someone who cares about doing the job right more than hedging their profit margin.

Kool, sorry I didnt respond earlier I had to leave suddenly for a business trip for a company I do contract work for...

Soooooo I talked to the dealer, and the engien he proposed getting was from another third party company based out of Toronto, that imports engines from japan, they also offer a full 6 month no clause warranty, sooooooo If anything and I mean anything is worn or wrong with the enigne they will replace it for me. Even i its just burning oil

So what I did, was get the dealer to purchase th engine for me through this third party with a warranty for it ad Im gonan take it, and get it put in by another local shop I deal with regularly here, where they are reputable, and I will pay for the labour.....How much do you think the labour portion will run me?

Not sure where you live, but some states frown upon JDM engines when it comes time for inspection. Just something to think about...

In my opinion, you should have found somebody to overhaul the engine you have. Then you know that every dollar spent went towards new parts and theres no sketchy conditions if you need warranty work down the road. Cost is probably on par with the "swap" your paying for.

I'm willing to bet they will keep the engine thats in your car and sell all the useful parts on it, in addition to what you are paying them. Add everything up and you'll see why they were so persistent in you buying another engine.

And now they are ordering it for you and allowing another shop to install it? This is yet another sign to steer clear of that shop.

If this "dealer" is the same shop that tried to talk you into buying a used motor... stop now before you get yourself in deep shit.

It sounds like you're trusting their word about this warranty.
I wouldn't believe them for one second.
That warranty sounds far too good to be true.

And by relying on this "dealer" to buy the motor, you're leaving yourself vulnerable should something go wrong. If you absolutely insist on going with a swap, buy the motor yourself... with your name appearing on the receipt.

But I agree with Steve -- it's the wrong way to solve your problem.

Forget about the whole idea of a swap.
Instead of taking a chance on a used motor with a questionable warranty, have the reputable shop rebuild your motor.
New rings, new cylinder bore hone, new seals throughout.

Yes, it will take longer.
Yes, it may cost more.

But it will be a reliable solution with far better warranty protection, because you will only be dealing with the shop that performed the work.

Aight, sounds good to me, you guys do know what your talking about after all. But just for clarification, He did not sugegst taking the engine to another shop for the actual swap, I did. I asked him if I could have the number of the third party company who is obtaining the engine and purchase it myself, and then bill him for it and he said ok, I am then taking it to another shop where I know the owner to be put in. Secondly, I dont live in the states, I live in Ontario, Kitchener to be precise. Thirdly, I am keeping my old engine, it is mine, and I plan on rebuilding it myself, at a leisurely pace since my friend is a a former C&C'r and now a nissan mechanic and has access to machining equipment....

And oh yeah, I realize he is not an actually cert Acura/Honda dealer....when i say dealer I'm simply refering to the used car dealer I bought the car from...

I think the reason why he is eager to give me a lil help is cause I threatened him with legal action, cause he didnt follow due diligence and my brother is a lawyer, originally he wasnt gonna help in the elast, and said "it is no responsibility of mine" but the minute I brought up court he kinda turned around...

So I got my car back last night, and am pretty pleased with it......still breaking it in althogh since getting it last night ive already almost put 900km on it, so I think after the weekend I'll get an oil change since I'm gonna be doing some more highway dirving the weekend....

While the engine and tranny was out I also got the clutch done too, and my car feels brand new

Hahahaha I'm actually really impressed with the mechanic, I showed up yesterday at 7pm to get it, and he wasnt done apparently there was an issue and they had to deal with another car so mine wasnt finished, he had a lot of work left to do, but I told him to take his time and he let me sit in the garage and watch and help out a bit too form time to time if i wanted, which I did, cause hte more I can learn the better , and we finished at about 2 am, he coulda def done it quicker but I told him to take his time and do it right and perfect the first time. Plus, he was explaining things to me as we went along...

So after it was all said and done, for the clutch and the entire engine replacement and labour (also had the timing belt and water pump swapped for new ones while it was out), I ended up paying about a grand and the dealer ended up paying about 2 grand lol

I guess only a few weeks will tell me how good the job and engine are exactly....Is there ANYTHING I should particularly be on the look out for?
