You can go turbo and the ls should put down decent numbers. How many miles does the engine have? Try a compression test to see where you stand and worst case, you can build your current engine. Keep the $2k and save up some more and turbo the car. Should be happy with that set up.

lets see.. my motor probley has somewhere around 200k on it.. because the motor is so old... my speed-o doesnt work so i really dont know... ok when it comes to turboing my car or any car theres more to come then just the turbo such as clutch, slip diff. axles, tuning... so yeah.. why does everyone wanna go turbo and not super charger??? s/c is always there for power, turbo you have to wait.. is it just something bout the honda/acura motors?? or wha?? i wanna do something besides turbo or charger because this is my d/d. wha could i do?

Well other than what you mentioned before, there's not much else you can do. However you can work on your suspension so your can respond alot quick when you want it too. There's TONS of stuff on the whole turbo/charger topic just do some research. From a personal stand point i've had a 98 gsr supercharged teg and yes the boost was there at an instant and is pretty good as a dd but one thing that sucked was the charger belt which broke on me once. You have to keep an eye on it as it needs to be changed depending on the driver. I bought the car like that but if I had a choice I would go turbo for sure. But I would want to make the build myself not take someone else's work, that's just me. Going N/A on a b18 non-vtec doesn't give you much room to work with. You can try going ls/vtec but that's a WHOLE OTHER TOPIC.

Also, here is a link as someone had something related:

you could build the valve train( cams, valves, retainers, etc ) and build up the bottom, hone the block , higher compression pistons, rods, etc the b18 block has a lot of potential but as i see just do your own thing

IMO 200k is a little high to start modding the motor. If I were you and wanted to work with the motor I have I would start by doing a basic rebuild of all basic components with OEM parts. Port the head, upgrade the intake manifold, add a header, some cams an exhaust and call it a day. Since your just looking for some spunk you shouldn't go all out w/a Turbo or try an LS-Vtec conversion on an un-prepped tired motor. Something will be bound to go wrong.
