I recently bought a AEM CAI and the beather hose seems a little too big in diameter, it is 1/2". The water hose seems like it will not be long enough to reach (it might just barely). It IS for a 96 GSR which I own. So I was just wondering if that is the correct size, and if not what type of hose is good to use as a replacement? Also, I think I noticed a few cracks in the breather hose, could that cause problems? Thanks in advance!

 

water hose? are you talking about the tube for the the head to breath?

 

Water is pretty much the LAST thing you want to be hooking up to your intake...:eek3: I think you are talking about the PCV.

OD of the tube doesn't matter at all, only the ID.

 

Sorry, im a noob. When i connected the breather hose to the nipple on the intake, it seemed really loose like the inner diameter of the hose was too large for the nipple. Should it fit snuggly before I clamp it down? And the other hose I was talking about was the hose for the intake manifold to the throttle body.

But ya, I think there are some cracks in the breather hose. I noticed a kind of residue on my windsheild after a few days of driving (near where the breather hose is, at the bottom of the windsheild). And it kind of seems like I lost hp.

Any ideas?

 

I just got an aem v2 intake, and part of the installation procedure was to install the supplied water bypass hose between the throttlebody and intake manifold, and a separate hose between the valve cover and the aem intake tube. If either is too big or small, just go down to your local auto parts store and get some heater hose. It should be like $0.10 an inch.

I have a question though. Did you have to replace a transmission mount as part of your installation? That's part of the install on my v2, and I couldn't understand why that is required.

 

Nope. I just bought the regular CAI because the retail dealer I bought it from said that the regular CAI has basically the same output as the V2 (for integra's), but less expensive. The only thing I had to change besides the intake was the two hoses. The instructions never said anything about the transmission mount? Sorry but I have no idea on that one!

 

Yeah, that one's got me stumped. I'm installing it this weekend, so I guess I'll find out. Got it for a pretty decent price though, $170 shipped.

There is a inlet on the back side of your valve cover for the head to breath. In a stock configuration this is a rubber hose that attaches to a metal hose that inturn attaches to the rubber, stock intake arm. Attached to the metal hose is a coolant metal hose as well that takes collant from the engine to the throttle body. You want to remove the metal hose from the intake arm and the rubber hose between the metal hose and the valve cover. Once your AEM CAI is installed use the rubber hose that came with it to connect the CAI to the valve cover using the inlets available on each. There should be clamps that will hold the rubber hose in place on the inlets.
