centerforce, it's because of the dual-stage intake manifolds. on the vtec engines, only half the intake manifold is open until vtec kicks in, that's why it's quieter.

Yeah, aem short ram intake. Mine sound good especially when tach hit 6K. My buudy has gsr also, I,E & H & his sound good, but on my B16 in my civic motor is louder than his gsr.

 

I have the AEM V2 on my B18C. It is pretty quick during half throttle driving, around town. But as soon as you jump it it gets stupid loud.
I have the intake, DC JDM sport headers, and a magnaflow high flow cat and cat back. The intake during vtec is still a lot louder.

 

mine was quiet too. untill i put the jg manifold on it. it is much louder now.

 

i just got K&N filter and my shiet is loud when uncovered...but eats so much dam gas so i keep covered now.

 

i thought the intake lowers the amount of gas used
