GSR owners w/ intake

Do your intake seem a bit weak in terms of sound? Friend's got the same intake on his LS and it sounds mean/deeper (when flooring it). Also a friends civic has a DC sports intake and it roars... I was wondering if it was the design of our gsr manifold thats limiting the noise or if anyone else notice it sounds a bit weaker.

Mine is fairly loud when the secondaries open.

Is VTEC working? The secondaries opening? ...

I have the AEM CAI....and love the deep roar....mine seems to be fine! :)

is your exhaust loud?

mxl36o 12-28-2005 07:40 PM

exhuast is greddy sp1 axel back (pretty quiet), header is dc 4-2-1... the header is loudest (esp during vtec). i'm just wondering if i should change intake, cause i like the deep intake sound

is it normal for the header to be louder than intake?

KaBlookie 12-28-2005 08:38 PM

i'm not so sure an aftermarket header would make extra noise, especially with everthing between it and the axle-back being stock... you might just be hearing the intake and mistaking it for the header??? or did you mean exhaust...

I have an SE (LS) with an AEM CAI and yeah, it's really deep and roary whenever I step on it. maybe B18C engines just react a bit differently to CAIs as B18B engines

it's definetely header especially during vtec (sounds really nice) , but i like that intake sound during non-vtec rpms. I currently have a generic intake, and someone is selling a new DC sports intake for 95$ shipped and my friend has a DC sports on his civic and that screams.. So i'm just trying to make sure no one else is getting this weak sound on their gsr, and i will purchase the DC sports.

i had an iceman (plastic tube) on my gsr and it was a lot more subtle than the ebay intake on my accord. i thinl tellurium is on the right track. most dohc vtec motors have a 2-stage intake manifold. the "vtec" you hear at 5800 rpm is actually the intake manifold opening the 2nd stage. so maybe it's quieter because the 2nd stage is closed until then? pesonally, i like it better that way. quiet, and then you hear the sound of the secondaries opening up, sounds way cool.

For the some reason the non-vtec engines sound louder w/an intake on them. Don't ask me why. However the GSR sounds better when the VTEC kicks in. Hvae someone drive your car and you stand on the side and listen. It is not that bad, and you'll be like, my car sounds pretty cool...
