this may sound like a very stupid question but i have a good reason for asking it.

i recently got a used black 99 LS. it came salvaged and it didnt come with the instruction manual. so i was wondering... is there a lever where i can open it manually??? its like i always have to open it from th back just to open my trunk and it gets really annoying? i know, stupid question but i just wanted to know since i dont have the manual.. k thanks

 

you shouldnt have to look in a manual have you gotten gas yet? its right next to that lever. cmon mannnnnnnn

Your '99 has an electric lock and an electric lock release actuator. Your hatch lock is tied in with the rest of the door locks. When in the drivers seat, you can lift the lock lever to unlock all the electric locks. At that point you should be able to go to the hatch and put your fingers in the handle area where you'll feel a little lever. Push that lever to the right and lift. If this doesn't work it means that your electric hatch lock release actuator is broken.

My 99 does not have a lever next to the seat by the gas lever either. That "lever" is attached to the trunk. When the car is unlocked it is ready to be popped. I don't like it personally. It's been fucked for about 3 yrs. now and in order to get my trunk open I have to turn the key all the way to the right and depress the lever at the same time.
