I think my head gasket has blown?
I have a 89 Integra 1.6 with 160 k miles on it. What do I need to get it back up running but Im not sure if I did yet. and what happens if you keep driving the car with the headgasket being blown? Any help would be greatly appreciated
well I was driving and the needle was at hott for about 2 minutes before I turned off the car? is that for sure thats its blown or what and if it blown, how long can I go before the car just dies on me or what happens when you have a blown head gasket?
needle at hot ??? check the radiator for fluid buddy. check to make sure there is no leaks either from different hoses, the radiator itself, or even the engine block. are you blowing out weird color smoke ??? are is your engine eating oil like breakfast ??? these are all questions that need to be answered.

aight this is what exactly happened. the car has been overheating for the last couple of days but it never got to the red mark yet. So i decided to replace the thermostat and still overheated. So yesterday I got home from driving to work and it was overheating and it about the 3.5/4 line on the coolant gauge. It was about 2 or 3 mm off the red. So an hour later I went to the gas station which is about 5 minutes away and when I was driving back the car was getting closer and closer to the red and like two minutes away it got the red and I drove it while in red for about 2 minutes. I came home and nothing was smoking or anything like that so do I just check my oil and see if there any coolant there or what else can I do to make sure the head gasket is ok? thanks alot of the help
First and foremost, as mentioned, make sure the radiator is topped off. Make sure the overflow reservoir has coolant in it.
You don't 'just' do anything. There's a bunch you can check.
What does the exhaust look like? White and smokey, smell like antifreeze?
How do the (spark) plugs look? I think if coolant is leaking into a cylinder, that plug will be squeaky clean.
Run a compression test.
Yes, check for milky oil.
Check for oil in the coolant.

aight thanks guys I will get on tonight and let you know how it goes. Hopefully its not a blown head gasket but I guess you never know. Also another thing the second day I got it, I was driving for about 30 minutes and it was pretty close to get like red hot and when I got home, the top of the radiator hose, the one that goes fromt the top of it to the block it looks like, was leaking some coolant out of it at the very end. It was right after the clip was there to secure it. A lot of people that maybe my radiator is clogged. Now it hasnt leaked every since but I thought maybe that the radiator is soo clogged that there is too much pressure for the house to hold so it just found the first exit? Does it maybe sound right or am I just retarded? and also the fans never ever have turned on even when it was red hott so where is the fan switch and the relay and the fan sensor located at?
A compression and leak down test will definitely give you a more accurate reading of whats going on.
You could just possibly have a slight cut in one of your coolant lines. This happened to me on the way home from work. Pop your hood, and see if any coolant is spraying or dribbling out from anywhere. Rev the motor up and you should be able to tell.

Well the fans have never come on once yet and I mean isnt that a problem they should be at least coming a little bit you know. I think all my hoses are alright because I have looked over them before they seemed alright you know but I guesss I will double check them and make sure everything is ok.
