VTEC Not Working
I have a 2000 Type R with a Jackson Racing Supercharger on it. back in Febuary i had a misshift and bent all my exhaust valves. after i got it back from the shop from having the valves replaced VTEC just didn't seem to be there anymore. I asked around on this site and others and people told me that you can't feel that transission to VTEC cause of the Blower and so forth. Yet i could feel it before the misshift. anyways I always thought it wasn't there cause my car was lossing its top end power at around 6,500. Now fast forward to two days ago. I broke the supercharger belt so i'm running N/A untill the new belt gets here tomorrow. So i opened it up to where we set my VTEC point when we tunned it at 5,100 and theres nothing. No VTEC loudness or kick. So what could my problem be. First thing i did was check and toped off my oil. still nothing. So next were going to check my selonoid. What are things to look for while checking it. also what else could it be if thats not it. could the shop have messed up on something in the head? Any help will be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
SELONOID, wow it took meeh forever to learn to spell that word correctlly in english.LOl Wow sounds like a tricky one there. The selonoid might be stuck closed, as for not open becuase yu would certainlly be able to tell.Being yu bent valves means that yur car jumped timing in order to do so even if it was a little degrees it jumped it enough to run the pistons into the valves at an undesired point. There can be many many reasons, one far fetched one that happened to us here at DUNK Performance and Tuning-Thailand:We had a 99 HOnda Prelude SiR. My cousin missed a shift and slightlly over reved. He did not bend valves but blow a head gasket. All spewing everywhere, wut a mess. Afyer full repair we did not seem to notice the VTEC punch or tone frum the intake non the less the exhaust system. The solenoid was fine but turned out the pump was not pumping enough pressure above 3500 RPM. It pumped enough to keep the nottom end lubed and i guess the top end also but not supplying enough oil pressure in VTEC range to activate the secondarry lobes on the cams via the solenoid. This is a long shot but may not be yur case. After we replaced the pump the VTEC werked flawlessly. Inspection of the old pump turned that the jolt it took frum blowing the gasket is wut done it. One more instance was on a 95 Accord R where it did bend valves. The oil delivery was there and everything okies. turned out to be the solenoid was not operating properlly. Could be to the Engine being in VTEC range when the damage was done to the valves, thus for jolting the solenoid and rendering its operation. One way to check the solenoid is either on car or off, which off is better, jump the leads(if on car unplug wire frum PCM to the solenoid first!!) jump it to a power source, one side to a positive and other to a negative touch it on /off/on / off, yu should hear and feel a clicking from the selenoid...Test 2 Oil on demand? with the solenoid on the car and the solenoid unplugged, with the same jumper leads in hand, one to positive and one to negative, start the car, have a friend raise the RPM to 200 or 2200 RPM jump the solenoid on off at 2 sec intervals yu should hear a diff in the engine. It should slightlly bogg or make a slightlly throathy intake sound and run slightlly rough while engaged. BE CAREFUL!! I have done these procedures in the past and the have been useful.
sorry SOOOO long post
sorry SOOOO long post
hopefully yu are getting a proper oil delivery to the solenoid, if not the VTEC will not werk, yu missed a gear/over reved and bent valves etc, hard to say, re-check the wiring, i kno a few years back , i was in the states at my cousins shohp and we were putting a H22A that i had flown in with in a 97 Accord Coupe, anyway, we took the horness off the F22B VTEC engine and did wut we could with it on the H22A because the wire harness was too diff frum the Accord. Anyway we at first mixed up a few of the plug ins , because many of the plug ins and varieous sensors around that area have nearlly the same plug in and yu can plug them into the wrong sensor and not know until it isnt running right. anyhow, maybe when they removed yur cylinder head at the shop yu took it they mis-matched 2 plugins that are similar and plugged in the same? Just a suggestion since ive had to rough it with used harnesses thru the years. Its hard to say that the ECU just decided to stop sending a signal to the VTEC solenoid. Odd. Also check and see if maybe the wire /wires were pinched maybe during re-instalation of the cylinder head at the shop. The last thing i can say is that the CAMS came off for the cylinder to be re-werked. Yu might have to take of the cam cover and check the placement and position of the secondaries/mid rockers and their placment to the mid lob of the cam, see if they are seated right, thats all i can say.Hope yu can get sumthing frum this
