Default 1998 Integra Manual Transmission Problem

Hi!

I'm having issues with my 1998 Integra LS transmission - the shift grinds going from 2nd to 3rd. I have to jigle a little bit to put it in 3rd gear, otherwise there will be screechy noise. Other gears are a little tight. Anyone has any idea or heard about this problem before. Per aamco, this is supposedly a common issue!

I first thought it was a clutch hydrolic issue, but the aamco guys are telling me the clutch is fine. They are saying either the tranmission has to be rebuilt or replaced. Makes any sense?

Thanks.

I think your 3rd gear synchros are toast...so yes, they would have to be replaced...which is going to cost you.

Thanks dubcac!

I read somewhere I can get away with not fixing it for the moment if i "double clutch" correctly. But that's not my intention in case i can get it done for reasonably cheaper somewhere. Any idea how to get it fixed for cheap?

I took a quote from AAMCO - they told me its going to cost me anywhere from 2.5K to 3K+ depending whether the tranny needs rebuilt or replaced! Any suggestions, thoughts, comments... ??

Thanks.

You can pick up a used tranny for much cheaper than that.

I am just going to assume you changed the tranny fluid already. The price they quoted you is pretty high

You can pick up a used LS transmission for $4-500 if you look in parts classifieds. Labor would probably be 4-500, about the same as it would cost to have a clutch replaced.
