Default 9005 vs 9006 headlight bulbs?

I have decided to finally put better bulbs in my headlights of my 97 LS because the stock bulbs (yes supprisingly they haven't burnt out ever) are just not cutting it, but i am not sure if i want to do either the 9006 Sylvania XtraVision or the 9005 Sylvania XtraVision conversion.

I decided on these bulbs because the Sylvania Silverstar use an overdriven filament which cause them to have a short lifespan (even thou they are most popular) and Sylvania XtraVision apparently have the most "usable" light.

My question thou is what is the difference between a 9006 (stock size) and a 9005 bulb if you can get the Sylvania XtraVision in both? What are the pros and cons of each bulb. I know that with some "conversions" you can either melt the headlight lens or ruin the wiring harness.

Plz any info will help!!

I don't quite understand what you're trying to do. Your 97 LS uses 9006 for low beams and 9005 for High beams.

just by modifying the 9005 bulb, you'll be able to get a lot more light. the 9006 size sucks, no matter the car. I believe its a pretty simple conversion, all i think u have to do is take out a center prong on 9005 bulb, and I'm sure a google search will bring about better directions...

go with the 9005 and do a search in our forums, there was a write up a long time ago. you have to shave off some plastic on the new bulbs to get them to fit.

I did the 9005 Silverstar conversion for my '94 GSR. You're right about the (extremely) shortened lifespan. I have already had 2 burn out on me in just like 6 months. I just ended up saying screw it and I just got a set of 9006 (standard fit) xtravisions and put those in. I definitely liked how the 9005 silverstars looked better, but I got tired of shelling out $20 each, not to mention the hassle off prepping the 9005 bulb to fit in the low beam connector.

I'd say try out the 9005 conversion with the xtravisions. I was thinking about doing it but I couldn't find any 9005's at the time so I just said forget it. Let us know how it turns out if you do it though.

Well i went to AutoZone and looked for the 9005 xtravisions but hey were all out of them, so i got the sylvania cool blue bulb instead.

theres a long write up with pictures on www.team-integra.net i think
Yeah there was a write up on team-integra but you have to signup with team-integra before you can read it but it was extremely helpful.

So far I can already see the difference in brightness by just shinning them against the wall. I'll take pictures of the lights tonight so you can see them plus i'll let you know if they last or not.
