Default Vtec/non Vtec

hi possible intengra owner, looking into buying a 94 or later, probably around 4000. If i deem the vtec worth it , ill spend the xtra cash for the GSR

In reviews Ive read, they claim once the engine reaches a high rpm (5000 or so) it really starts to go because of the vtec(i dont know if this is true)

Do non vtec integras like the LS have such a point when the engine reaches a certain rpm that it turns into a monster?

How much does vtec really help? try to be as least biased as possible.

VTEC helps, a lot. It provides better cam profiles for both low and high RPMs, alowing you to get more power out of your engine. Also, GS-R B18C1 motors are better designed than the LS/RS/GS/SE's B18Bs, with things like knock sensors and oil squirters. Also, GS-Rs have better wheels, better sway bars, and color matched side guards. ..

Also, 94-95 GS-Rs have built in oil coolers.

A non Vtec motor has more torque takes off faster.Good for low to mid range. It consits of a GS,LS or I believe the RS model also. The LS motor 1834 CC vs 1797 Vtec. The block is stronger than the Vtec. As far as racing stock high 15's low 16's. The Gsr is funner good at mid & high range. You'll have a faster 1/4 mile time. Overall GSR is better. IMO I would get the GSR hands down. Just take your time looking.Of course you'll get a non vtec car cheaper. Alot of the guys like the LS because they would put a Vtec head on a Ls block. It's too much time & money involved because the non Vtec is not designed to rev no higher than 7100 rpm. Vtec revs anywhere from 8000 rpm up to 8500(Type R) stock. It's your choice but most people would recommend a GSR.

Boost > VTEC.

I find VTEC very overrated. People talk about it like it is the best thing since sliced bread.

vtec allows you to have a small cam that idles nice, drives nice on the street, and gets good gas mileage. then switches over to the big cam to make highend power.

exactly...when vtec kicks in power is the main concern over "saving gas". Vtec was WAAAY too advaned for any 90's domestic nonsense. Domestic automakers ---> Why design an engine that would operate more efficiently during easy driving when all our oil companies will be losing money heheh.
