Default Vtec not that loud

Well I took my car in to see if the vtec was working on my 97 GSR, sure enough it is. I questioned that my vtec was not working because I couldn't hear it kick in. I thought that you were spposed to hear the engine get louder when the vtec engaged? Mine you really can't tell that much of a difference. My friends RSX type S is loud as hell, I know his engine is bigger but even he said he thought it should be louder. could there be a problem that the shop didn't tell me about or is this just somthing I'm going to have to live with?

do you really want it that loud? stock intake? stock exhaust? the only thing that gets loud on the GSR is when the secondary butterflies open up.

Why do people relate "loud" with "performance"?

I only say this b/c I've heard other integras that you can def hear the vtec engage. I'm not saying it's hurting my performance. I've already smoked a Mazda 3, 2 Mustangs, and a Prelude. I just think it's supposed to be a more noticeable change to vtec.

what setup you have in it? the shorter the intake the louder it will get. i have a friend with only a D16Z6 single cam and he cut the intake pipe to like 4 inches and put the filter to the other end. his vtec sounded like a Si or GSR engine when he floors it!

i'll disagree with you on this one. when i take my brother's gsr to redline, vtec gets loud. i dont even notice the secondaries. i've tried listening for them but they get drowned out by vtec. h:
