Other than the speedometer, is the VSS used for anything else?

eg... if I don't replace it and it goes bad will I see other things have trouble?

 

no you wouldnt, i have a 90 ls with 195k miles, my speedometer has been wobbling around the 60s for a while now and when my car is cold, i hear the noise of the speedometer wire thingy moving. it wont damage ur car at all if u do not fix it. mine is still running strong

 

i have a 91 integra mine did the same thing and made an anoying sound i ended up pulling the dash apart and squirting a little wd-40 down the speedo cable and a little in the back of the cluster it seemed to do the trick.
