Temp problem on teg (over heating), need assistance.
Thanks a million MaxOctane. It just sucks that it is happening all at once. I just had to do the Distributor, and ignition switch, and tires. The guy that had it before me NEVER did anything, but said he did. Sucks!
I will check the hoses tonight and see what's up. I did notice some dripping when the car was not overheating yesterday, but i thought it was leftover fluid draining.

Oh another question, what type of coolant should i use? the manual says Acura-approved, but i have heard as long as it is the same color as the previous one (which i can tell was green) it should be ok.

Just last week, my 90 Teg started overheating, at least that's what i think it's doing. My temp gauge stays at a nice in between the middle and the cold, so it doesn't look like it's heating up. I'll be driving to work (freeway, about 30 mins) and by the time i get there, i have smoke coming from the top of my hood (not a lot but enough) and my engine is puking a little antifreeze (i'm assuming that because i can smell it). It pukes out from the middle area of my engine, not the front.
i checked my resevoir and it was almost empty, so i filled it with water (all i had at the time) while my engine had been off all day, so as not to create a problem with a hot engine.
I drove home and no problems. A little smell of antifreeze but from what i could tell it was just burning off my engine, not dripping.
Drove to work this morning, and same thing again. I let the engine run for a while, and the fan comes on and all, so that part isfine. Now there is a bunch of water on the ground under my car.
I didn't think to check the actual radiator, as you can probably tell i was following steps other people have posted here to help.
Any suggestions? Does anyone think i have a leak perhaps? This just started last week, the last thing i did in the engine area was fill my oil because it was low.
Thanks

The endcaps on the radiator tank sometimes bust, and would explain your symptoms. What I would do is drive you car till it warms up, come home, park it, and place some clean white paper underneath it. That should help you spot the exact point of the leak.

Well I now know what it is. Its a leak. Each time I have the heating problem, I'll noticed my antifreeze level is way low. I'll fill it up and about 7-10 days later car wll heat up again and will need to be refilled. I noticed leaking from this area. Its a gasket but I dont have the part number, can someone please look it up?

I'm too lazy to look it up, but try surfing through www.acuraparts247.com. They would have it there.

It's associated with part #6 on this page... Not sure if the gasket is seperate from it or not :happysad:
meguel, what you want is some hi-temp liquid gasket. unbolt that part, pop it off, scrape and clean off the old gasket, apply a new layer.. rebolt. at least that's what i did on my teg.
and man, that is one clean engine..

Ok so I tried to determine the cause of this problem i have. When i got home i placed a white sheet under my car, and the leak is coming from the mid-area, not even near the front by the radiator. i tried getting under there to see the hoses, but they are so tucked like a bunch of neat intestines, i have a feeling i'm gonna be getting dirty on this one. I have my manual and how everything is setup, so tonight i am going to put the coveralls on and check it out. I have to refill coolant every time i drive though, it sucks. The worst part is the smoke that comes out ever so slightly when i stop at a light!!
I still have coolant in there, i checked when i got to work today, so i guess the smoking is the stuff burning off the engine or something. My rad isn't empty, although the resevoir is.
I'm going to go nuts with this car, it sucks because it's so nice inside and well kept, but no one ever did sh*t to it during it's lifetime. That has been passed onto me.
