Dayamn! 143, that's impressive, thought it was gov'ed.
My old LX motor topped out at 115. I have yet to go past 100 on my B16 yet... Guys gotta be careful on public roads at those speeds~!

The GSR's gearing is longer so it theoretically should be able to pull out a higher top speed. This is of course assuming that top speed in these cars is gear-limited.

I should rephrase sorry; the law is that speedometers cannot underestimate(it can be dead on or overestimate); it might say in in that C&D article, and I know it said it in "CAR" when they did an article on optimistic speedos; BMW in particular.

Yes in theory, but there probably wouldnt be enough power. Just think about it; if a Type R does 143-145(under track conditions measured by radar or timing traps, and with speed corrected due to tail/head winds), then how can a heavier GSR with 25hp less do the same(not going downhill)?

I've already acknoledged that the gearing in the GSR is higher. If you want to believe that the GSR is as fast as the Type R (under track conditions), then go ahead.

Peace.

I drove a marked mile in my car the other night at 110mph and then at 130mph. I can't keep the car reliably at 140, maybe I'll try it out when we have another cold night....anyway.

One mile is 5280 feet.

At 110mph it took 32 seconds to cover the mile, at 130mph it took 27.5 seconds to cover the distance. (You can quickly see why speeding dosen't really get you there THAT much faster)

So when you do the math with those numbers....
130mph equals 190.66 feet per second, divided into 5280 feet in a mile and you get 27.5 seconds.

110mph is 161.33_ feet per second, divided into 5280 feet in a mile and you get 32 seconds.

I did the run on what seems like a fairly level bit of highway at night when its colder and there isn't as much hot air causing wind. There are two on/off ramps nearby the mile markers so I timed the distances going both ways on the highway to prevent any sloped sections from messing up the numbers. I ran each speed 5 times and just averaged the numbers together to get a decent average. I would have done more but I started to run out of gas. I used a stop watch on a switch so that I could hit it more accurately. Thats pretty much the best I can do without radar or a hot lapper.

From this "experiment" I would have to say that the speedometer is very accurate even at 130mph. Thats it

thx247 - but did you account for the weight difference? Your car was lighter and lighter with each progressive run.

I believe standard pump unleaded weighs something like 7.2 lbs to the gallon. Water is 8 lbs per gallon.

Hope this helps to further detail-lize your experiment!

Whoa thx247, looks like you did some serious speeding.

Even if your experiment was done and calculated correctly, remember that the 2-3% overestimation by honda/acura speedos is just an average.
