Default trouble getting into reverse

I have a 2000 LS. when the car is cold I can't put the car easliy into reverse, I get it after a few tries and a few curse words. What would cause this?

It happens to me too. From what I've heard, it's normal. Some say to put it in first, then to reverse, but I just keep trying...

yeah it's that annoying why do I have to do this every time I get into my car thing.
my old prelude had that.
It seemed like it depended on how I parked the car. As in, was there any pressure on the driveline. I got in the habit of making sure the weight was on the e brake, and sometimes leaving the shifter in reverse if I was going to be backing up when it was time to jet. Of course this was an 82 Prelude,.... but the mechanical concepts haven't changed all that much.

You should put the hand brake on with the clutch in anyway, perhaps you need to change tranny fluid?

Mine has the same problem, my "fix" for it is to put in neutral, let clutch out, give just a little rev, then it pops right in 99% of the time. It's just a normal problem though, nothing to worry about.

The owner's manual mentions the reverse lockout that designed to save the ass of an overly enthusiastic shifter. Not that I'm confessing to anything...h:

I simply de-clutch, shift to neutral, let the clutch out, then repeat - shifting to reverse.
Of course, the car is motionless at the time.

I think "overly careless" shifter may be a more accurate description

I disagree.

After driving a car with a six-speed tranny for a long time, it is possible for a person to forget that another car has only five speeds. h:

Not that I'm confessing to anything.... :chuckles:

I have that problem too, I usually just put it out of gear, pump the clutch a few times, and then it goes easily into reverse.
