95 Integra LS Axle question
Hi all,
I wrote about a problem with the car last month and got some good advise. Here is the thread[click here]
The problem was the clutch. Now I'm putting it back together and have another problem. I was using my Haynes manul (I know, I know but it's all I had). Anyway I made a mistake when removing the axles. I think I got the right one out and in OK.
The left (driver's side) is another story. The manual didn't say not to pull on the hub end of the axle. I did. I tried to pry and beat and pull to get it out. I finally took the bracket that attaches to the back of the engine loose and took the whole assembly out.
I put the axle back in and when I put the hub back in the axle apperars to be too long. I can't get the hub all the way installed. I read in another thread [click here] that you will seperate the carrier bearing if you pull on the axle. I must have done that.
Now, how can I get it back together? Also according to that thread, the axle will seperate. Is that true? If I buy a replacement axle will I get the whole thing or only part of it? Any ideas? Any?

Look at #6 in upper left. That's the inner driver, it's made up of a tripod bearing & a 'cup' where the bearing slides in.

The tripod bearing is a three-legged thing that's attached to the end of the shaft. You have to line it up so it slides into the grooves in the 'cup' part. If you have trouble with it, take off the big end of the rubber boot so you can see what you're doing. Be careful not to get any dirt in there, & it's a real mess to handle with all the grease in there.
Also, be careful that any of the 3 bearings don't come off from the tripod. There's needle bearings in there, they can be a real handful to reassemble.

Jim,
That picture was a big help. I did have to take the boot off and put it all back together. That was a big help. Thanks.
Now I've got another problem. It seems the release fork came out of place when I put the tranny back in. I can't get the slave cylinder back in place because the fork is pushed all the way forward against the pressure plate.
I'm afraid I may have to drop the tranny again. I'm hoping I can just loosen it and pull it back enough to reset the fork. We will see.
Thanks again.
