Bumpstop question
Hey guys,
I'm running on 17s with 2054017 rubber on my 98 RS. I had a problem with my tires rubbing against the fender liner, it eventually wore out and theres a pretty sharp piece of metal sticking out now. That metal cut a nice groove in my tires so I'm thinking that I cut my bumpstops too short. I really want to avoid this happening again so I got new bumpstops, I'm planning on just using the completely stock bumpstops. My question is, how much can I lower on uncut bumpstops? If they're too long, how short should I cut them if I'm running on 17s? I'm using tokiko blue struts.
thanks!

The Tokico Blues have rather soft damping rates, I'd honestly go no lower than 1.75 inches. Cut the bumpstops to the height Tokico recommends.
For added insurance against tire damage, you can flatten out that welded flange over the tire.
Carefully cut the flange - perpendicular the flange edge - in sections about an inch long. Using a small length of 1x2", hammer the flange sections back so they lay flat against the unibody.
And if you can manage it, you ought to re-install your wheel well liners. They're there for good reason.

Yeh, they are pretty soft, I think that might be a reason why I was rubbing. I'm prolly gonna swap out those struts for illuminas soon.

And I agree the adjustable Illuminas would be a good investment.
