Alright, so i was coming home from Jacksonville tonight, and my dash lights werent working. so i didnt think anything of it, thought maybe the bulb just burnt out or something.

So anyways, im crusing along, and all of a sudden, there is a police car in my rear view mirror, with his lights on. So I pull over, and he tells me i don't have any tail lights, and im like WTF. So i got a ticket for speeding and one for no taillights.


Anyways, my question is: "Since this happened, should i upgrade the fuse for the tail lights and the dash?"
I don't have anything aftermarket done to either of em, so i dunno.

any thoughts would be helpful. thanks.

 

OH, and the sucky part is. The courtdate thay gave me is the same as my 21st bday. some bday present huh.

 

You should NEVER put a fuse in that is a higher rating than the one that is specified. The fuse blew for a reason. You should replace the fuse with the proper rating and either hope it was a one time thing or figure out what caused it. A larger fuse could just mask the problem and even cause a bigger problem, such as a fire. :nono:

If it continues to happen you need to toubleshoot this electrical problem. This can be very difficult or very easy. Sorry.

The reason your dash lights were out is that they're tied to your tail lights for the precise reason that you saw. You would have no idea that the lights were out when you're sitting in your car, unlike with a head light which you should notice pretty quickly. When the dash lights are out it's an indication that your tail light fuse has blown.

This is also the same as when a turn signal bulb is out. The flasher will be faster than normal, to indicate a problem on that side.
