Default What the hell is up with my fuse??

About 6 months ago, my main fuse blew. I replaced it and everything was fine until a month later, I made a 4 hour drive. When I went to start my car after this drive, it blew the fuse. I replaced the fuse and everything was fine. I figured it was just a coincidence. A month after that, I made the same drive and sure enough, after trying to start my car, the main fuse blew. The next morning I tried a new fuse and as soon as I turned the key, the new fuse blew. This happened 3 times in a row. I took it to a shop and they could not find anything wrong with it. They replaced the fuse and said they could not recreate the problem. This also happened to me one more time after a 2 hour drive. I still take my car on short drives, but am afraid to take it out for more than a half hour because I think I will just get stuck there. The weather conditions were dry when this happened each time. Any ideas?

please help, im desperate.

what kind of ICE (in car entertainment) system do you have?

that could have something to do with it, other than that make sure your battery tie strap is tighten to prevent the battery from shorting

stock system.. I do have a kenwood head unit though. I checked the wires there and they seem fine, but what do I know? could the head unit possibly be causing the short?

not a 100A main fuse tho'

if the radio were to short, it would have its own dedicated fuse..

try checking the connection between your starter and fuse box. the main starter wire may be loose and touching the body, which would cause that fuse to blow.

My mechanic and 2 shops checked that out. They all said it was fine. My main fuse is a 50A fuse though.

hmm, i thought it was 100A but i guess not :dunno:

have you tried checking the connections to the alternator also?

i believe the starter and the alternator are the only two electrical components hooked up directly to that fuse.

if its intermittent like that, i would think an exposed wire is shorting out from the vibration.
