Default Cam Gear help...what brand to get?

I was wondering if there is a comparable brand to Skunk2 for cam gears, so I can save a little money without sacrificing power or reliability.

I've heard of HKS, AEM, STR and even Fidanza cam gears. How do any of these stack up to Skunk2?

Basically my set up now is I/H/E/clutch/flywheel and I will be probably getting the Exospeed LS909's (a mild stage 2, doesn't require valvetrain work and I would be revving to the same redline - 6800). The cams tuned should give me in the area of 10-14 whp.

I just need some good and safe cam gears for these cams (I've heard of AEM ones 'slipping' and blowing motors).

By the way, I'm also running a ZEX dry 55 shot, and with the addition of a Skunk2 IM down the road am hoping for mid 13's.

Any comments on the cam gears or cams in general are welcome!

You could probably find a set of used Skunk2 cam gears for around $100. I just bought myself a pair for $120. As far as the other brands, just stay away from the gears with only 3 bolts (i.e. AEM). If you go with STR, be sure to get the newer ones as the old ones only have 3 bolts. You might want to think about upgrading your valvetrain, or at least just the valve springs. There i've read a few articles where aftermarket cams cause excessive and premature wear on the valvetrain even when the company said no upgrade was required. i'm installing a set of Crower 403's within the next few weeks as well. Let me know how it goes.
