tires?
i have an oppertunity to buy some kumho ecsta supras for $60 each. right now i have the worst tires in the world that were put on by the dealer, and for autox, its not workin to well. so i definately wanna get some new tires, but i duno how good the kumhos are. also the same place has toyo proxes for $85 each. is it worth it to go with those for the extra hundred bucks? these will be used for autox and street. give me some feedback thanks.
What size are you talking about?
Assuming 205/50-15 you can get Falken Azenis for 75 a pop in that size from discounttiredirect.com which 40 is bucks cheaper than the Toyos (I assume you're talking about the T1-S as the FZ4 is an all-season tire) and they'll be way stickier than the Kumhos.

A while back, I was looking for tires for my 99GS. The car I just bought has the original Michelins and the rubbers are starting to crack on the base of the thread even there is only 18,500 miles on the car. For safety reason I decided to get a new set of tires. After looking around, I decided on the Kumho Ecsta ASX in the 205-50-15. I was also looking at the Toyo Proxes 4 tires. I use my car as a commuter car and I do not race or take my car on the track. I was looking for an overall safe tire with good handling in both dry and wet condition and acceptable thread wear. I live in CA, so snow driving is not an issue. The Toyo Proxes 4 probably is a better tire in handling but they are about $26 more per tire when compared to the Kumho Ecsta ASX. I am having the tires put on tomorrow and I will definitely will give everyone a review on the Kumhos later.
I have the kumho acsta 712's and I am pretty pleased with them. They grip pretty well and I think that the sidewalls offer loads of support for good turning response. They are great, but they aren't no azenis either.

I need to lay off the beer :exnbp:
I've been autocrossing on Kumholio 712's for two seasons (well, now I have 711's in the rear for that added rotation :rick: ). They're good for a beginner tire. They've held up pretty well and have decent grip.
If you want the best bang/buck in a street tire, its gotta be the Falken Azenis though. IMO this is the best street tire short of the BFG KD (which is ungodly expensive). If you can get a great deal, go with the Kumholios, if you want the best autocross S-tire go with the Azenis.
As for size, Azenis run a little fatter than most tires, so a 205mm width would be a little big for stock rims (I used to have fat fives too
), but should be OK due to the Azenis' super-stiff sidewall. If you go with the Kumholios, a 195/50/15 will give you quicker response and better steering feeback than a 205mm, but the 205 will have a touch more grip. On the 15x6, I prefer the 195mm (i've used both)

i had azenis on my car a while ago and i loved em, they grip really well, the only problem was i was rubbing on the inside of the fender but that was because i got 205/55/16. i think that in 15's the 205/50/15 is the only size they make here in the states. but i dont think 60 bucks is a good price for those cause i got mines for 66 and they were 16"s
