Default Track Noob tire question

I can get a screaming deal on Toyo tires, do I go with RA-1 or T1-S? The Expo will be the first time on the track me. Will street tires be better to learn on?

Also, 205/50-15 or 225/50-15? Stock suspension Volk TE37 15x6.5 +39

Thanks!

R tires mask your driving errors, and make it easier to *appear* you're driving better than you actually are. I'd stick with the T1-S for now... you'll be a better driver for it.

I don't think it's a good idea to put 225-50 RA on a 6.5" wheel. The +39 will also make 225's risky on an OEM ITR.

So I'd vote 205's.

You sure the Volk aren't 7"? I've only seen T37 in 15x7.

I'm not sure why you picked the two types of tyres you picked, but I'd stay away from R compounds on a stock suspension ITR, especially if it's your first track event.

Falken Azenis are very sticky, forgiving, and make noise when you're at the limit.

Yes...that change from a high pitch to a low pitch sound lets you know when they're being pushed too much. I think they're a great tire to learn on.

That is good to know and reason alone for getting the T1-S.

George, I am sure they are 6.5in wide. I got them from a friend who used them for autocrossing and he wanted to stay with the stock wheel size. I was going to get the Kumho MX in a 205/50-15, but a friend of mine can get me a screaming deal on Toyo tires.

thanks everyone for your replies. I think I will go with the T1-S for now or see if my friend can also get a deal on the kumho's for me.

If you don't quit talking about your screaming deal on Toyo tyres, you'll be attacked by all the RA fans looking for a deal.

Like me, for instance.
